I just love the brave little skinks that live in my yard! The tiny ones have no fear!! This guy hung around while I took a few pictures.

I used the bold colors from Simple Stories' 24/Seven line. I added a few photo frames and some ink splots. I added the date in the tiny box in the top left corner after I took the picture of the page. I forgot what day I took the skink photos! ;-)

Amazing

I took this funny looking photo while sitting in a porch swing at my friend's pond. This little damselfly (I guess) flew in, landed and then proceeded to hang out not but 6 inches from me for about 20 minutes.

So cool.

He didn't seem to care that I was so close to him, so I *had* to take a photo! ;-)

I got the idea for the layout from Mel Blackburn over on her blog, Random Ramblings.

I used up lots of snippets on this one too. I kinda-sorta cleaned off my workspace by adhering to this page any bit of paper I could make work! HA!! =D


I don't know about you, but sometimes something I did on a layout will bother me for the rest of my life. When I'm like 93, I will probably be complaining about that scrapbook page I made in 2001 and WHAT WAS I THINKING.

On this page...it's that cute chipboard sticker that looks like a Polaroid and says "Take a picture, it will last longer."

The angle is wrong. I would rip it up except it's the only one I have and the middle is stuck securely with pop dots.

*sigh*

Rest Stop

I have threatened more than a few times to change the name of my blog to "Shamelessly Copied."

But really, if you look at this page by Wilna Furstenberg, you will totally want to shamelessly copy it too! (You can check out her blog here for more inspiration.)

I loved the idea of the cording running across the paper. LOVE.

I had this one photo of a dragonfly, perched on a log which was hanging over a river. I thought...how cute! The cords will look like ripples along the river!

OK, I totally hope you were thinking the same thing.

Heh.

Anyway. I added some letters and some snippets, some wood veneer and some dots, a little sewing, a few ink blots, and that awesome cording.

So easy and really simple! I taped the cording to the back of the cardstock, then simply used a glue gun to attach the wood veneer to the cording. It's not super secure, but it hasn't moved at all in the album.

Ocala Skipper

Another quick post tonight--we've got a Severe Thunderstorm Watch right now and I'll bet money we're going to lose power on this one.

So I gotta hurry!! ;-)

This page started with that strip on the left side. I had used the paper to punch stars for a card...which I forgot to take a photo of--of course! :-/

I wanted the stars to have an ombre look so I brushed different colors of yellow Distress Ink on the strip. So cute! Then I had the strip left over and decided it would be cool on a scrap page.

Before I adhered that, I splattered ink dots and used Distress Paint and a tube to make those fun circles. I added some enamel dots too.

This is also my first foray into using gauze. I ransacked the house a bit and found some in a roll. Not exactly what I wanted, but since I just tucked it beneath the photo, no problem. It adds cool texture.

I used a bunch of snippets too. So it was more like an experiment in scrapbooking! :-)

'Shroom

I loved this little mushroom, clinging to the side of a tree, five feet above a flooded wetlands area. I just thought...how tenacious this little guy is. And just how the heck did he make it all the way across the water to the side of this tree??

Ah, the mysteries of nature!

And then of course I needed to scrapbook the little 'shroom! :-)

I used bits and pieces of various papers and took one of my new stamps out for a test drive. You can see the tone-on-tone yellow arrows on the right side. I love that it's so subtle!

I kept everything else to a minimum to allow the photo to take center place.

Oh, and sorry about the wonky paper there. The humidity warps stuff in under 20 seconds!! :-O

A little mixed media

When I saw this page by Michiko Kato over on the Crate Paper blog, I knew I wanted to CASE that puppy! Michiko used Pan Pastels. I just used Tim Holtz's Distress Inks.

So easy.

Die cut, hand cut or punch some circles. Place the circles on the background paper, then brush the colors around the edges of the circles, using the circles as masks.

Done and done!

I added a few layers of paper, a few dots and a sticker.

Sting like a bee

Quick post today! Monday is always House Cleaning Day around here and I still have tons of things on my To Do List! But I do love a clean house! ;-)

I made this page as clean and simple as possible. I used a bit of leftover stripes--all the paper is from We R Memory Keepers new Chalkboard collection. LOVE the colors on this one!

I was running low on creative titles so I simply used letters to spell out, "sting like a bee" since the rest of the pictures from this hike are all about butterflies.

Get it?

Boxing legend Muhammad Ali said, "I float like a butterfly and sting like a bee."

Ha ha ha!!

I added a few dots, some washi tape and then I called it a day.

Oh Jaime Warren!

When I saw Jaime Warren's scrap pages over on Cocoa Daisy, I was floored. Man, she's so incredibly talented!!

So, naturally, I shamelessly copied her design! ;-)

I used punches and stencils and Distress Inks and wood veneer and banners and ink blots and metal dots and the kitchen sink.

OK, not really the sink. But I threw everything else at this page! It was darned fun, let me tell you! I'm usually the clean-and-simple type, but lately I've been having fun making ART.

The photo is another in the series I took at my friend's pond of the amazingly gorgeous dragonflies. I got super super close to this one. You can see the literally see the hair on the back of his neck!

Anywho. Another scraplifted page today. Today's victim is the ever-talented Marcy Penner. I love her style! I shamelessly copied this page over on the Studio Calico gallery.

I titled the page "tarry" because I tarried alongside my friend's pond. I sat down on the edge of the water, not moving and barely breathing, until the dragonflies got used to my presence. Then they flew quite close to me and landed here and there. I got some wonderful zoom lens close-up shots because I took the time to sit still and tarry for a bit.

Seymour

Here's a second shot of the dried Tiger Lily seed pods. The first one can be found here.

When I showed my mom the photo, she immediately said that it looked like that huge plant in the movie, "The Little Shop of Horrors." Apparently, one of the most quoted lines is, "Feed me, Seymour!" The plant says this to Rick Moranis' character, Seymour.

I was running out of snappy titles for my flower shots and thought, "Feed me, Seymour" sounded like as good a title as any!

I love the graphic block design scheme that's so prevalent right now in scrapbooking. I cut the little Polaroid type photos from a BoBunny 12x12 sheet of paper. I just used the blue, green and yellow ones. The green matches the background paper pretty well! ;-)

Catching up here with a few pages that I made before Shimelle's challenge weekend. This zinnia is another picture from the group I took while hiking back in July.

The papers are all from We R Memory Keeper's new line called Chalkboard. There are several papers in the collection with this dreamy watercolory look to them. So pretty!

I added some washi, a few dots and an alphabet card from Tim Holtz that I've been hoarding for several years.

I also made a little flair button from some cute Doodlebug Designs paper. Then I threw in a few fun puffy Thickers letters and I was done! =D

Fire-wheel

I'm pretty sure I scraplifted this from somebody...I just can't remember who. Probably Shimelle. I'm a tad brain dead after all the challenges this weekend, so you'll have to cut me a little slack, OK? ;-)

I wanted to have a wild page for a wild flower and grabbed some paper from Bazzill Basics called Lucy's Crab Shack.

Oh sure. This photo was taken in a garden, about 200 miles from the beach. But it worked. Or at least it does in my head.

Roll with me here, eh?

I cut up a journaling card and adhered it on the top and bottom of the photo. The card with the bike on it is another journaling card I cut up.

I used some wild washi tape and some fun glittery yellow letters too.

Fire-wheel is the common name of the flower in the photo. :-)

Embrace the White Space

Soooo, first of all...this is what happens to scrapbook pages when they are outside in 100% humidity.

They warp.

And secondly, this is what happens when it's a gray, cloudy day and you're trying to photograph white stuff.

It comes out all weirdly yellow and blue.

*sigh*

So you'll just have to squint and think happy thoughts on this one, OK? ;-)


When I saw Shimelle's challenge to accentuate the white space, i was super happy. Yes, I love the white space.

And when I saw guest designer Els' page, I was super excited.

SO excited that I just scraplifted the heck out of her page.

Yes I did.

I used happy little scraps from the Echo Park kit I have been using for the past few layouts. I added some drippage and some tiny embellishments and called it a day!

I really, really, REALLY wanted to use some sparkly title letters like Els did, but I loved Shimelle's idea of going tone-on-tone.

So the white--and they really. are. white. in real life--won out on this page. I think it works here because all the focus remains on those super fiery zinnias.

Landscape & Portrait Challenge

This time around Shimelle has given us a Sketch to Scrapbook Page using both horizontal and vertical photos.

I changed up the sketch a bit to use one portrait photo and one journaling card that mimics the two smaller landscape photos Shimelle used.

This was a super fun sketch. The part that took the longest was drying the Mister Huey spray! Too much humidity=loooooong heat gun drying time!! ;-)

I actually picked all the papers first and then had to hunt a vertical photo. Gratefully, this particular zinnia decided to grow in such a direction that I had to take the photo longways! LOL!

A 3x4 Gathering

And the challenges over on Shimelle's blog just keep coming! This has really been so much fun! (And I've gotten LOTS of photos scrapped too!!)

For this challenge, Shimelle gave us a sketch to turn into a scrap page.

I almost always scrap 4x6 photos, rarely smaller, unless I have lots of one thing. I just happened to have two photos--one of a butterfly, the other of a blooming Pyracantha bush--that I printed out at 3x4.

And then promptly pushed aside to scrap all the 4x6 photos!

I *knew* they would come in handy!! ;-)

I used the sketch a bit differently as I only had two photos and not three. Other than that, I pretty much followed along with Shimelle.

But first, mucho apologies for the absolutely crappy photo. It was late when I finished the page and therefore, dark. And today it's raining, so no outdoor photography. :-(

But onward, yes? :-)

I manged to skip out to a craft store yesterday and bought my first ever page kit. It's an old one from Echo Park, but I love the colors and it comes with bunches of stickers! YAY for stickers!

I took Shimelle's sketch and turned it sideways, like her guest, Stephanie Berger, did. Then, I only used one photo.

I kinda like all the open white space on this one. I do miss my layers though! ;-)


Looks like Shimelle has more challenges up today too! Gotta get scrappin!!

Another fun challenge! Loved making this embellishment. I used die cut pinked circles, a die cut label, a punched circle, a sticker, a metal dot and lots of pop dots.

I kept the rest of the page pretty clean because of the 'scene' on the background page. I did distress a few layers of paper for under the photo.

This was a fun challenge! I watched quite a few videos and decided on #35, which is from September 14, 2011.

The photo is of a dried Tiger Lily seed pod, in black and white. They are so gorgeous close up!! I didn't want the page to be sad so I titled it, "The sleep of the tiger lily" and journaled about how beautiful the pods are...knowing that in the spring, new Tiger Lilies will be produced from the seeds.

I also totally misspelled tiger "lillies" in the journaling. I decided to be OK with it and moved on. =D

#7 On the Vertical

After a brief pause to play along with Tim Holtz and his awesome tags, I've returned with another Shimelle challenge page.

Challenge #7: Scrap on the vertical.

Not something I do often. Isn't that funny how we like what we like and that's how it is?? ;-) But this was a fun change-up for me.

I used a snippet of Tim Holtz paper for the big vertical piece. And Simple Stories for all the sticky things. I also managed to get a bit of cork (the geotag) and a bit of wood (the tiny star) on this page.

Tim's Tag for August

The Talented Tim has struck again!! His tags for August are way beyond awesome!!

I, of course, had to go all MacGyver AGAIN this month because I don't have the main supplies Tim used.

No matter. I used what I had and came up with this! I'm loving the background especially because it looks like clouds rolling.

I used stamps, Distress Inks, Distress Stains and Distress Markers. In place of the mask stuff Tim used, I used the ol' Post-it Note trick.

The band, which I thought was appropriate because I live 200 miles from the ocean, says, "possibility begins with imagination." I can imagine I'm on the beach, right?? =D

I ran the Picket Fence Distress Marker across the metal band several times until the ink went down into the words. It also sank in around the brads on either end. I wiped some of the ink off and the remaining gives the band a salted-by-the-ocean look!

#6 Design Love

Looks like I've caught up with Shimelle and her challenges, so maybe, just maybe I'll get some lunch!! =D

Challenge #6 is to scrapbook with your favorite design.

So I just scraplifted Shimelle, of course.

Heh heh heh.

I used a bunch of KaiserCraft papers. Love that black and mint green combo!

Because of the cool design on the paper at the bottom right, I truncated Shimelle's design a bit so I wouldn't cover that up.

I still manged to keep to the Rule of Thirds and I rather like how it turned out!

I rarely journal this much on a page, but I took the time to document everything about this picture--the who, what, where, when and why bit. When I get old and senile maybe this will help me remember some good times! LOL!!

Well, no. Shimelle didn't actually use the word *hoarding*----but we all know what she REALLY meant, right??!! ;-)

Challenge #4 is: Use a supply you've been saving.


No challenge there! LOL!! =D

I used the following hoarded products:

Prima (wood veneer leaf and flowers)
Authentique (letter stickers)
BasicGrey (6x6 paper from Basics Manila)
K&Co (Designer Mat Pad paper, Earth Tones)
The Paper Company (brads)
And...

I only got the shakes for one brief moment...

We R Memory Keepers (Happy Camper: Constellations beloved-awesome-will-have-to-buy-another-sheet-now patterned paper)

*sigh*

That last one hurt.

But just a bit.

#3 Stickers!

Here's the last challenge for Friday night! (Good thing--the sun went down and I lost my light source! LOL!!)

Challenge #3 is: Use plenty of stickers


I think eight stickers must qualify as "plenty"--especially if you also add in the letter stickers. Those totally count, right??

I have these super fun stickers from Simple Stories I've wanted to use somewhere. I think they work perfectly with this photo!

If you can't see what's going on here....it's a close up of a turtle that I found wandering around in my yard. I'm pretty sure SHE was looking for a nesting site and I paparazzi-ed her to death! =D

The title says, "Call the Turtleman" which is a reference to an American TV show about a guy who catches turtles, HUGE turtles, like the snapping turtle kind.

My little visitor isn't a snapper, but I love it when wildlife shows up in my yard. :-)

Also, the cream colored paper right under the photo is from an old accounting book that I ripped up. The bit that you can see sticking out under the photo was so appropriate. It says, "...probably produce 500,000 units during its efficient life...year of its life the machine produced 30,000 units."

I certainly hope we don't get 500,000 OR 30,000 turtle units!!! LOL!!!

#2 Three 3x4 Cards

Ooooo, was I super excited to see this challenge!!

Challenge # 2:  Use three 3x4 cards in a line on your page.

I've had these sweet kraft cut-apart cards sitting on my desk, all nicely cut apart...waiting.

And waiting.

Until TODAY.

YAY, cut-apart cards!! =D


This one came together quickly. I scrap-lifted Shimelle a bit.

OK. A lot.

But it was fun and I like the final product. Not too many layers here either, but I like scrapping outside the box! ;-)

Paper: We R Memory Keepers (Country Livin': Flower Field); Bazzill (black cardstock)
Ink: Dylusions Spray Ink (Black Marble)
ETC: Queen & Co. (washi, pearls); Simple Stories (letters and stickers)


I *know* one of you sweet crafters has those kraft cards in your stash. Could you please, please, purty please tell me who made them?? I cut them apart and then I tossed the manufacturer's info. :-( I really like to give credit where credit is due!

Over on Shimelle.com, Shimelle is running a weekend-long series of scrapbook challenges. (YAY!)

Here's Challenge Number 1: Use a Noelle Hyman flexible template.

Noelle's video is on Shimelle's page--watch that, then watch the video on Shimelle's take, then make your own page!

Super simple!


So this page is a bit out of my comfort zone.

Cuz I don't do purple, yo.

With that said, the page matched the color of the Thistle exactly. Seriously, in real life it really does match. ;-)

I made the tag by using a piece of the same pink paper under the photo, cutting the corners, punching a hole, and lightly stamping the floral image in Pumice Stone ink. I added a bit of bakers' twine too. That came out pretty cool, I must say. Heh heh. :-)

I used Noelle's template, but basically made an 8x12 layout on a 12x12 background.

And yes, I was that kid in kindergarten that refused to color inside the lines.

I also got into a few fights. But that's a story for another time....

Anywho. This challenge was challenging for me because I'm a layering kinda fool and I don't have many layers here.

And that's why they call it a challenge, my friend.

Play along with us, will you? It's fun! And you can color outside the lines!

But no fighting, eh?

On gossamer wings

During CHA in July of this year, Two Peas in a Bucket ran a series of scrap challenges. One of them was to add eight lines of some sort to the page.

I know I saw someone's page where they had added strips of paper for the eight lines, but now I can't find the scrap page I saw.

*sigh*

In any event, whoever you are, you inspired this page and I appreciate you!! =D

I used We R Memory Keeper's new line, Chalkboard.

Love it, love it.

I cut up left over strips of Chalkboard paper and sewed them on.

Yes, I have become a sewing addict.

I added a few metal flowers and some dot things and a tiny heart.

And that was pretty much it.

I love that it was fun to make and that the paper colors are absolutely gorgeous!!
