I love this card!

It's so cute and calming and quiet and serene.

I used very few supplies. The bird punch from Stampin Up and the leaf punch from Martha Stewart.

I added an eye with a pen. Distress Stickles add a bit of icy sparkle.

And that's it!

I think the original card that I CASEd had green leaves, which would be totally cute too. :-)

Second Post....

I felt I needed to make this announcement.

As of 6:15 PM, Saturday, November 27, 2010, I have officially finished the foundation pages of my DECEMBER DAILY.

I bought little 3-inch rings, thinking they would hold all 27 pages. How wrong I was. I ended up using industrial-sized zip ties, for crying out loud!! =D

WOW.

I can't wait to get started journaling in it TOMORROW! Maybe I'll post the pages as I travel through Advent....

So....as usual...I saw this really cute card somewhere and decided to shamelessly copy it.

I loved her little ornament hanging down from the top of the card into the scene below.

Alas....this is what I got instead! Not quite what I had in mind, but the recipient probably hasn't seen the original, so I think I'm fine! ;-)

I used VersaMark for the flourishes. I like the subtle watermark look of them.

The ornament is a QuicKutz die cute with a bit of gold ink to highlight the swirls, made using a Cuttlebug embossing folder.

Down at the bottom I stamped Merry Christmas.

I like the icy feel of this card! And the layers! And the snowflakes! And the colors!

My foundation was an icy white cardblank.

Next up is a layer of icy white cardstock which was embossed with snowflakes. I inked up the edges with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink.

Then a layer of icy blue cardstock is layered on the snowflakes.

I stamped snowflakes with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink on another layer of icy white cardstock

The top layer (sentiment) is a tag of icy blue cardstock, stamped with more Tumbled Glass Distress Ink.

With so many layers of ice, it's like an ice storm!! ;-)

I've spent the past few days working on a new (for me, anyway!) project called December Daily, a concept developed by Ali Edwards. The idea is to have a journal/scrapbook put together by November so you can journal the days of December leading up to Christmas. There are all sorts of things you can do, but Ali has spots for tickets, receipts, photos, recipes, etc. I decided to make mine more like an Advent journal. I have a page for each day of advent (well, I have 12 days finished so far!!) with space for comments on what I'm learning through my Advent devotional. I love anything that helps me focus on the REAL meaning of Christmas: Emanuel, God With Us. :-)

Holtz, Tim Holtz, that is.

This card is a mixture of several different techniques I've seen around the blogospere lately.

Jennifer McGuire: The paper is used here is watercolor paper. Then the background color is made using a clear stamp block, which has been tapped with several different Distress Inks and misted gently with water.

Jennifer McGuire: The trees are made by stamping then stamping off the image, after misting the inked stamp with water.

Tim Holtz: The little charm is a Tim Holtz Fragment. I stamped the tree image on another piece of watercolor paper, then I glued it (using Glossy Accents) to the back of the Fragment. After it dried, I cut off the extra paper around it, then strung the fragment with a bit of wire.

Tim Holtz: I actually pulled the wire out of some wired ribbon I didn't like (OK, that was my idea), then I made a small hole in the watercolor paper, pushed the wire through and then taped it on the back. It swings on the paper but it's very secure.

I stamped Rejoice on the bottom using the same color ink (Peeled Paint Distress Ink) as the trees.

I needed one more Thanksgiving card and I had just gotten Stampin' Up's French Foliage set, so I totally had to combine the two!

I used a kraft cardblank and stamped the leaves and the postage cancellation in Walnut Stain Distress Ink. I stamped one little leaf in Fired Brick Distress Ink for just a bit of color.

I didn't do it on purpose, but all the leaves are pointing at the sentiment, which I stamped last. It's like, HEY HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU!!!!!

Anyway, I really love that set of leaf stamps. They really do look like I inked up an actual leaf and did a leaf print. Very cool.

I love rummaging in WalMart's clearance aisle. I found some Martha Stewart glue pads on deep discount and bought one. It comes with a little bottle of glue and a pad, like an ink pad.

Which would lead you to believe that it is easy to operate. I mean, come on, it's a tube of glue and a glue pad.

Right.

I made this card two weeks ago and I swear the glue is not dry YET.

Anywho. I punched out the little Christmas tree, outlined it with Ms. Stewart's glue, then poured glitter on it.

Next I die cut the rectangle from a white cardblank. I backed the opening with some sparkly snowflake paper.

Finally, I stamped 'Silent Night' along the bottom of the card using more of the glue and dusted it with clear glitter....which is hard to see even in real life. *snicker*

Yet another experimental card.

I guess being semi-new to all the card making stuff, I can claim that as an excuse for how funky some of my creations turn out.

You know...like this one! =D

I had just bought a new color of Tattered Angels, and so overly sprayed a kraft cardblank with it that the card headed in that "hmmm, NOW what?" direction. It's a deep red color so I was kind of limited in what other colors I thought would look good.

I chose red cardstock and some funky Graphic 45 paper. I distressed the Graphic 45 a little, but the whole thing needed something.

I remembered a tutorial of sorts on how to make faux postage stamps. Simply cut a small square or rectangle, then use a regular hole punch along the edge to make the little 'tear-apart' edges. (I'm sure there's a scientific word for that, but I hope you know what I mean!)

I stamped a tiny tree, the 'be merry' sentiment and a 25 for the postage. Then I distressed the edges with a bit of ink (Antique Linen).

I like the postage stamp--I think that came out really cute.

The rest of the card...not so much.

I suppose I could save it somewhat by adding an image or something to the center panel.

I love this little tree stamp! You could go so many different ways with it--colors, sparkles, gems. Very fun!

I took a "less is more" approach and highlighted just a few of the ornaments with red and green Brush Markers, then I used a sparkle gel pen for all the rest of the dots.

Yeah, that took some time.

The background is cream cardstock, with snowflakes stamped in Pumice Stone Distress Ink, and distressed with Antique Linen and Brushed Corduroy.

I did the same to the Christmas tree piece of cardstock, but I also pulled it across a Fired Brick Distress Ink inkpad. I layered that on a piece of red cardstock, which I slightly distressed.

The ribbon is seam binding which I sprayed with a bit of homemade spritz spray in Walnut Stain Distress Ink. I crinkled it up then dried it out with a heat gun.

The picture doesn't do this card justice. It's pretty cute in real life! :-)

Here's another card that almost hit the trash can.

Several times, in fact.

I love that Rejoice stamp. So, I crossed my fingers and held my breath..and stamped it directly on the ivory cardblank.

I almost never do that because, 9 times out of 10, I make a smudge or don't get the stamp inked up fully or it's crooked...or...or...you get the picture.

Here I had a bit of random ink on the edge of the stamp's rubber.

Grrrrr.

There was no camouflaging it. So, I cut off the bottom of the cardblank and tried again.

THIS time, I stamped it on a piece of the cardblank I had cut off, then used a word tag punch to punch it out.

Alas, the Rejoice was too long for any of the tag sizes.

By now I'm aggravated. I punch it out anyway.

I grab a leaf punch and add those to the mix.

So now I've got a short card with a short Rejoice and some leaves.

I had to give up on this one. There was no fixing it.

But the passage of time heals all angry card-making sessions and now I think this card maybe isn't half bad.

It's got a festive, clean/simple look to it. You know, for a vertically challenged card and all! ;-)

This started out as an experimental card, but I kinda like it! ;-)

I ran a piece of purple vellum through an embossing folder, then realized the BACK side is probably the coolest side! It came out swirly and frosty, like a snowstorm at night.

Conveniently, it matched a polar bear stamp I had recently purchased. It's all swirly and frosty too! So I stamped that in Dusty Concord Distress Ink, which also conveniently matched the purple vellum. SWEET.

For a bit of color, I die cut the nativity star from yellowy-orange cardstock and then covered it with Glossy Accents, to give it a neat shine.

I'm taking a bit of artistic license here with the story of Jesus' birth--I doubt there were any polar bears around the manger--but maybe if you think more about Jesus as our Guiding Light, the card might work. Yes? ;-)

I think this card is hilarious! =D

I love how all the ornaments seem to be swinging around, like a cat got into the Christmas tree!! ;-)

The one thing I would change next time is the border across the top. I think it would've looked better if it went all the way across.

Pretty simple to put together too. I used a die cut for the ornaments. Then I stamped the sentiment below and the holly leaves on a separate piece of kraft cardstock.

I adhered the kraft piece, then the ornaments. I drew the lines then stamped the sentiment.

Except for the crooked, hand-drawn line of snow, this little card is not so bad.

Oh no.

My card has become Charlie Brown's Christmas tree.

Maybe if I put a string of lights on it and sing a carol, it will perk up.

No?

Hmmmm.....

So I embossed a strip of paper in a snowflake embossing folder.

Then I cut out a rectangle of green cardstock. I stamped a little tree on a small piece of kraft. I added snow using one of those seriously cool snow pen thingys.

Then I put the tilted, snow covered ground beneath the tree....or there was an earthquake...or the tree is growing on the side of a mountain....

Finally, I stamped 'let it snow' three times. Cuz it's just fun to stamp stuff three times.

This card started out in a whole other direction! I was about to throw it out and start over, when I thought maybe...maybe...I could save it.

I grabbed a swirl stamp and attempted to cover up the mistake I made.

I kept stamping. I switched the stamp around, but always kept it pointing downwards, like swirling, falling snow.

I wanted a different sentiment, but I ran out of room. So I rooted through my little stamps and found JOY. It's just a little dollar stamp, and I got what I paid for...but it fits in with the distressed look of the swirls. I added dots of Rock Candy Distress Stickles on the dots of the swirls and the ones on each side of JOY.

The card is different, that's for sure. But I'm glad I was able to save it from the trash can! =D

i had a piece of BoBunny Christmas paper laying on my desk, and I thought....that would be SO COOL as a card!

So I CASE'd the designer paper.

And as with everything I attempt to duplicate, this turned out nothing like the original, so I don't think I'll have any copyright infringement problems. Ha ha ha.

This is kind of an involved card, but not hard at all.

I die cut the ornaments, ran them through an embossing folder, then highlighted the swirls with gold ink. Part of the die cut is the ornament top--the hook holder part--and I colored those with a gold paint pen.

I grabbed a piece of cream cardstock and stamped the pine bough stamp twice, once upright and then again at an angle. I stamped the pine cone image, then stamped a different pine cone and cut it out, attaching it using 3D Dots to pop it up.

I added berries using Stickles. Then I distressed the edges with Antique Linen and Walnut Stain Distress Ink. I also brushed Forest Moss Distress Ink in the lower left corner, to create a look of fullness.

Finally, I stamped the sentiment near the top. I think I should have placed that nearer the bottom, but I kind of like the clean and simple look with all the white (cream?) space.

So after yesterday's fiasco, I decided to try again, this time with a different technique.

First I punched out the Christmas trees from a piece of dark forest green paper.

Then I adhered it to a piece of crisp white cardstock.

Finally, I ran that sandwich through the Cuttlebug, embossing both sheets of cardstock and allowing the white paper to be pushed up onto the green paper's level.

It looks as if the white paper has somehow erupted into the green. It's interesting. Different. I think maybe the edges need border punched or something. It looks a little plain at the moment.

Well, first I guess I have to apologize for the bad photo. Would you believe the sun was actually shining directly on this card when I took the photo?? I don't know what happened.

Anywho. The amok part. That cream, embossed back ground started out as another card. I ran the cardstock through my Cuttlebug, then swept a Walnut Stain inkpad across the snowflakes and across the ripped edge. That technique was SUPPOSED to make this cool, aged, burnt wood kind of look.

Fail.

It looked odd. The torn edge was supposed to be layered over two other torn layers, both different colors with the same ink on the torn edges for a burnt wood kind of look.

More fail.

*sigh*

Nothing came together, so I ended up chunking the other two layers and putting the snowflake layer aside.

You know, where it would mock me for a few weeks.

Eventually, when I could stand it no longer, I punched out three trees, flipped the paper over, then adhered that layer onto a piece of green cardstock.

It's OK.

At least it no longer mocks me.

OK, this has become my new favorite card! :-)

I stamped the leaves on colored cardstock using Walnut Stain or a Walnut Stain-Frayed Burlap Distress Ink combo. I fussy cut them out.

Then I distressed them with Antique Linen (all over) and Walnut Stain (edges and vein lines.)

I used a piece of black and white script paper, which I also distressed the heck out of!! I used Antique Linen, Frayed Burlap and a final layer of Walnut Stain, mostly on the edges. The more I rubbed the ink around, the more the script was rubbed off. The ink took a bright white look to an antique, aged look. Awesome! ;-)

I stamped the sentiment with Walnut Stain. Then I positioned the leaves so the top two would look like they were falling and the bottom one would frame the sentiment a bit. The bottom leaf is popped up for dimension.

Here's another of my wheat cards. This time I used less chalk, for a more muted effect.

As before, I stamped directly onto the ivory cardblank, using Walnut Ink Distress Ink.

I stamped the sentiment on off-white cardstock, also with Walnut Ink, running the edges across the ink pad. Inside, I did the same thing with a Happy Thanksgiving stamp.

I've said this before and I'm about to say it again....I LOVE THIS STAMP. =D

I don't know what it is about wheat, but I love any decorative item with wheat on it. And stamps too. I probably have 4 or 5 wheat or wheat-looking stamps. And an embossing folder. And about 15 or so different designer papers with wheat on it. And I've already posted some of my wheat embossing stencil cards.

So pretty much all of my Thanksgiving cards have wheat on them.

Yay!

I used a two Distress Inks for this card. I stamped it fully with Scattered Straw, then tapped it randomly with American Honey...I mean Wild Honey. (Do you know that song by Lady Antebellum? I love those guys and always call that ink American Honey pretty much because the song gets stuck in my head! LOL!)

I stamped it several times, without inking, and then once again after I re-inked.

I used the textured side of a piece of off-white cardstock. I also stamped the sentiment (Walnut Stain Ink) on the same color of cardstock, but I ran the edges across the ink pad to give it a border.

I did the same thing on another piece of cardstock, stamped Happy Thanksgiving and adhered it on the inside. I layered everything on a kraft cardblank.

When I first saw this autumn corn stamp, I knew I had to have it! I rarely buy any 'one trick pony' stamps (what other use does this have except for autumn or Thanksgiving??), but this one is special. :-)

I stamped the image in Walnut Stain Distress Ink, then colored it in very lightly with Blending Chalks.

I stamped the sentiment on a piece of cardstock that was slightly darker than the ivory cardblank. I distressed just the edges with Walnut Stain to give it more of a border.

I stamped Happy Thanksgiving on the same cardstock and adhered it inside the card.

And that was it!

So I FINALLY got a beautiful sunny day to take pictures of cards! Except it's like 40 degrees with a 20 MPH wind blowing. Grrrrrrr. The weather is against me. ;-)

Here's the first of my Thanksgiving cards. As I took pictures of them, I think I might not have enough to send out. Oops. Darn that! I'll have to make MORE CARDS!!! LOL!

I used a Dreamweaver stencil for this one. I have wanted this wheat design for EVER and I finally found it a few months ago at a craft show. YAY!

I used stencil cream for the design, then colored it using chalks. When I removed the stencil, part of my cardstock went with the tape I used to hold it down, so I just went with THAT! I used the painter's tape I had adhered the stencil with to rip off more of the cardstock. It really gave the card a cool effect!

I stamped the sentiment on another piece of cardstock. I distressed that with Antique Linen and Walnut Stain, then used both of those inks to distress the larger piece of cardstock. Then I layered the papers on a kraft cardblank.

I like that the card is on the 'country' side without going overboard. It looks just right for Thanksgiving!
