Tim's Tag for December!!

Woo hoo!!  Once again Tim Holtz has hit his tag out of the park!

As ALWAYS I didn't have most of what he used.

     ...insert Distress Stain Sprays wailing and temper tantrum here....

And as ALWAYS I just MacGyvered my way to this:

I use smaller tags than Tim does so I didn't have the room for the second word.  No problemo!  I just added a strip of paper.  But ooooooops...I forgot to adhere it UNDER the frosty stuff!  Eh.  It's fine.  ;-)

I used some plastic packaging with a frosty look to it and as Tim did, I ran it through an embossing folder and it became even MORE frosty!  So love that look!!

I added a Mirrored Star, coated with Distress Paint in whatever that silver color is called.  Tarnished Silver?  Yeah, THAT.

The tree is die cut from Grunge Paper.  The die is actually supposed to knock all those swirls out, but it didn't like the Grunge Paper.  I thought it looked fabulous that way.  Pretty cool, eh??

There's a bit of glitter on the tree too.

And on my fingers.

And my clothes.

And the carpet.

And my computer keyboard.

And in my hair, on the mailbox, the TV remote, the neighbor's cat and the Eiffel Tower.

*&@#^%$  I hate glitter.

Dec Daily in the Houuuuuuse!!!

Yeah, OK.  I really did make up my December Daily album way back in August.  I find that by getting the album set up that far in advance, I don't have to feel rushed putting it all together at the end of November...or even in December!!  ;-)

You can follow along with Ali Edwards and her December Daily project right here.

And, as always....and, as I am such a rebel...my December Daily is actually an Advent Daily.  I start mine on the first Sunday of Advent, versus the first of December.

This is an old 6x6 SEI album.  Love them.  I used papers and embellishments from We R Memory Keepers' North Pole collection.

The album cover is still plain simply because (a) I haven't decided yet what to put on it and (b) I usually wait til after Christmas to decorate it so that the embellishing doesn't get worn or fall off with all the use.

Week In The Life

Ali Edwards ran her Week in the Life project this year from Oct 27 to Nov 2.  I was a bit of a rebel.  I prefer my weeks to start on Sunday, so I just moved it one day back.  :-)

I really wanted to use stuff I had on hand, so I grabbed an old, bought-on-clearance Smash Book and went to town.  It really was the perfect size--and I had plenty of pages too!  I loved it so much I bought another Smash Book for next year!!  (Yes, yes. I know.  It totally defeats the purpose of using stuff I have on hand.  SIGH.)

Here are a few pages from 2014's Week in the Life............

I loved the mix of pages in the Smash Book.  There were printed images and words on most pages. I tried to not cover them, but to highlight them with Distress Markers.

I also loved it when a particular page went perfectly with a photo, like this flower (above) from Wednesday.  (Excuse the wonky writing--I'm trying to learn some art journaling fonts.)

We had reallllllllly lovely weather that week.  I tried to hike as much as I could.

On Thursday (above), my Mom and I went to North Carolina's Blue Ridge Parkway.  More beautiful weather and gorgeous scenery!

On the last day, Tim Holtz posted his November Tag so I played along and got all inky!  While eating Halloween candy....of course.




I'll be doing two new (to me) projects in 2015.  One is Stephanie Ackerman's Documented Faith and in conjunction with that is Art to the Fifth's the Documented Life Project.

Both are free!  I'm already excited to see what craftiness (crafty-mess??) both of these projects will bring to 2015.  I've already done a few things to prep the journal/planner the classes use.  Check them out if you are looking to step out of your comfort zone!

Tim's Tag Time!!

Gosh, has it been another whole month already??  It seems like I just posted the October tag two days ago!!  :-O

Sir Tim has created another gorgeous tag for this month and you can see that here.

AS USUAL I don't have all the fancy toys he has, so I went MacGyver on this tag big time.  I got super inky in the process!!  Love it!


Step One:  Distress Paint the heck out of a tag and then root around for an embossing folder that looks fallish:

Step Two:  Panic because you don't have the gold foil stuff Tim used.  Use gold embossing powder instead.  Watch as gold embossing powder goes everywhere.  Did I mention that gold embossing powder goes everywhere?  It does.

Step Three:  Spend way. too. much. dang. time trying to find some cardboard stuff.  Spend way. too. much. time fiddling with a leaf die cut.  Give up after three attempts and make do.  Attach to Distress Painted tag.  Go to distress edges of leaf cutout with ink.  Notice that there is now gold embossing powder on your beloved Gathered Twigs Distress Ink pad.

Step Four:  Eat some Halloween candy and feel better.

Step Five:  Flick brown ink on tag.  Realize you have no Distress Sprays.  Pout.

Step Six:  Smoosh Tarnished Brass Distress Stain on your craft sheet, spray liberally with water.  Make a huge mess.  Sop some up with a paint brush and flick it on the tag.  Feel pretty good about your MacGyver skills.

Step Seven:  Eat more Halloween candy.

Step Eight:  CAREFULLY press rub-on words onto a vial label. Remember that you believe rub-ons are evil.

Step Nine:  Eat more Halloween candy.

Step Ten:  Admire rubbed-on words.

Steps Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen:  Add Philosophy Tag thingy (it says LISTEN) with bakers twine and pop dots.  Ink up some seam binding for the tag topper.  Distress edges of tag and brush with gold-embossing-powder-covered-Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.

Step Fourteen:  Eat more Halloween candy.

Step Fifteen:  Admire finished MacGyver-ed November Tag.  Notice there is gold embossing powder on your computer screen.

Step Sixteen:  Eat more Halloween candy.  Repeat as needed.

It's October already???

Yep, it's October the first and you know what that means around here...Tim's TAG TIME!!!


And as usual, I had to go all MacGyver on this tag because I don't have any of the supplies Tim Holtz used.  Totally check out his tag here.

Here's my take:

 

I used Embossing Paste for the background, hit it with about a gallon of spray inks, then mopped it off.  The paper towel removed a lot of the ink from the paste so when I hit it with a bit of Distress Spritzer-ed Distress Marker, the speckles really showed up.

The stencil is actually a large tree.  When I first removed the stencil and saw the paste....um...it looked awful.  Kinda like broken glass shards or something.  But with the addition of the spray inks, I think you can see the branches if you really squint.  ;-)

I did make the mask for the leaf like Tim did with his spider, but it faded into the background too much.  So I just made a leaf from watercolor paper and a stamp, then pop-dotted it into the little recessed area.

The pumpkin, however, is wicked cool. Here's a closeup of it...

See all that texture?  I stamped the pumpkin on watercolor paper, colored it, then slapped Rock Candy Distress Crackle on it.

Then I may have been in a hurry and I may have overheated it to the point where the Crackle may have bubbled and blistered.

So.  Freakin.  Cool.

It's like those weird pumpkins you find with warts and bumps all over them.

I totally buy those for my jack-o-lantern each year.  No, really.  I do.

I added some ribbon stuff, that awesome skeleton skull and the fun letters.

Tim's Tag for September!!

It's the first of the month and you know what that means!!

Tim's Tag Time!!!!!!

Head over to Tim Holtz's blog for all the details and directions and secret recipes.  ;-)

Tim did this cool ghosting thing with alcohol inks on glossy cardstock.

Here's how my first attempt turned out:

See any ghosting?  No?  Me neither.  So I went to Plan B which was to use the kinda cool backgrounds I ended up with and SMOOSH the Alcohol Ink Blending Solution through the stencil onto the tag.

BINGO.

Worked so nicely that way!

Oooooooo.  Ghostly!

Then I stamped this image on the tag:

One of my faves and I was so excited to use it!

See that headdress thingy going on?  I smooshed more Alcohol Inks on another piece of glossy cardstock then die cut feathers from that.  And then I rubbed on some Remnant Rubs to the ghostly tag and glued and pop-dotted the feathers on too.

Which gave me THIS:

Whoah!  Nice, eh?

I mighta sorta went and gone a little crazy on this one.  Since I forgot to stamp script on my feathers like Tim did on his butterflies, I just die cut MORE feathers, stamped script and added them!  WOO HOOO!!!!!!!!

It's kinda funky, but I had fun and got all inky and so there ya have it!

Tim's Tag for July

And it's July first so you know what that means!!  Tim's Tag Time!!!!!!!!!  Woot woot!!

This month, as with all months, Tim wowed with his creativity.

And this month--for the first time EVER--I pretty much had everything Tim used...or variations thereof.

Those seahorses are from an old Cuttlebug die cut.  Tim used Crackle stuff on his seahorses.

I may or may not have made them that way first off and then hated them and then I may or may not have thrown them away in a fit of anger and I may or may not have kicked the trash can as I threw them away.

Sooooo.  I just made another set of seahorses following his recipe for the sand dollar and starfish, and left off that Crackle stuff.

Much better.

And, so I can embarrass myself further....funny story about what happened when I took the photo.  I went outside in the sun and placed the tag carefully on the railing and bent over a bit to take the shot with my phone.  Buuuuuut I didn't realize the lawn guys were there and walking across the yard like 10 feet away from me and in bending over whilst not wearing, shall we say...proper undergarment support for The Girls, I may have flashed the lawn jockeys.  They were pretty calm about the whole thing while I died of embarrassment.  ARRRGGHHHHHH.

Making art can be difficult.  Taking photos of art should not be.

Tim's June Tag!!

Yep, it's June 1st and Tim Holtz is on the ball with his latest tag!  Check it out--love the colors and the technique he used with stencils!

Here's my take....

Sorry about the horrid photo.  The sun went down hours ago!  ;-)

It took me a few tries to find a stencil I liked.  The first ones didn't have enough "blank" space to get much color on the tag.  I love the Dylusions circle stencil.  Perfect for a summery/oceany tag!

I used lots of Distress Inks too.  Mustard Seed, Dried Marigold, Spiced Marmalade, Wild Honey and Broken China.  The Broken China mixed with all those yellowy colors and made a beautiful green!  I misted the stencil and pressed it on a piece of watercolor paper.

The effect is just SO. COOL.

Then I totally held my breath and stamped the seahorses in a row.  Not too bad!  :-)

Next I stamped the seahorses again, on watercolor paper, and cut them out.  (ETA:  And used pop dots for some dimension.)

Then I held my breath AGAIN and stamped the Serenity on the side.

Whew!  Got it straight-ish!!  =D

I distressed the edges with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.

I added the token and the stars, plus the Distress Ink-colored seam binding.

And then I called it a day...er...night!


So that's it for me.  I'm headed to wash the ink off my very ink fingers!!  LOL!!

Playing Catch Up

Still working on catching up with all my NSD challenge pages.  That was like...what?...three weeks ago now??  Sheesh.  Time flies when you're having fun!  ;-)

Here's another page....

For this challenge, we were supposed to use large numbers and stencils and ink and paint.

As you can see, I used no large numbers and a stencil with ink.

(Excuse the odd yellow paper there.  My mom is hiding under it!  I didn't feel comfortable blasting her lovely face all over the web during (Inter)National Scrapbook Day, you know what I mean??)

Anywho....

I used stenciled images on a few of the circles.  Then I borrowed one of Dyan Reaveley's tricks and laid the wet stencil on the paper for the opposite image.

I loved the outcome.  Not so sure I like it on this page.  :o

And the random pink dots perfectly match the hot pink shirt my mom was wearing that day.


Also...totally loving those Thickers.  I think it's called Rainboots.  They are lovely glossy black letter stickers.  And Jones Gap is the name of the state park we were hiking in when I took my mom's photo in front of that ridiculously huge rock you see there.  Such a gorgeous place!

Celine Navarro Inspiration

This page is another NSD creation.  Celine Navarro challenged us to get our mixed media on by using paints, inks, and a bit of gesso along with added textures.  She ran several of her journaling tags through embossing folders then covered them with gesso and added watery paint on top of that.

Let me tell you....FUN is the word on this one!

So out of my comfort zone but I so enjoyed the messiness!!

The photo is another shot from Santee State Park.  Most of the tags are from We R Memory Keepers.  A few splots of ink and a couple embellishments and I called this one FUN AND DONE.  LOL!!  =D

NSD Happenings

Did you do any scrapping for National Scrapbook Day on May 3?

I DID.

I scrapped my little fingers off!!!  =D

Here's one of the pages I made....

I played along with Big Picture Classes' NSD class/challenge.  Ten different teachers gave a mini lesson or idea or layout to inspire us.  The idea here was to create a page along the lines of Project Life, or pocket scrapping.

Totally not my style, but I had lots of fun on this page.  These are some random photos from a state park I visited last month.

A bird.  A grist mill grinding stone.  A canal wall.

And Jules, you'll be proud of me--I used up lots of snippets!!  =D

Tim's Tag for May

Yep, it's the first of the month again!  How did THAT happen??!!  =D

And as always, Sir Tim Holtz has created a gorgeous tag to challenge us to get all inky!  Click here for Tim's tag and his step-by-step instructions.

I do have to say....this tag probably took me the longest to make and this tag is probably the heaviest one I've ever done!  =D  Lots and LOTS of Grungeboard!!  (Man, I love the way that stuff smells!!!)  Lots of ink, lots of found things too...

 

I went with a May/nature kind of theme.  The five is for the fifth month.  If you squint, you can see a calendar behind the 5 with Thursday on the top.

It *is* Thursday, isn't it??

Then I added a feather from my yard and some stars I really did find outside on a hiking trail!  I guess someone was celebrating something.

The heart and the key symbolize my love for the outdoors and all things hiking...the key to my heart.  Get it?  Ha.

The butterfly stamp is...well...for butterflies.  :-)

And the "HERE" piece of paper is for the idea that Tim has of "Remember the Now."

Each Grungeboard piece is covered in paper from one of Tim's paper stashes--Lost and Found.  Then everything got sanded and inked and distressed.  All the metal bits got hit with Alcohol Inks.

FUN, I tell you!!  And I have the inky fingers to prove it!!  =D

I used a branch die cut and a floral die cut set instead of the die cuts Tim has.  But other than that, I used his recipe for the tag.  ;-)

Tim's Tag for March

It's March first and you know what that means!!!

Tim' Tag Time!!!!!!!!!!!

This one was such fun to make...even without 90% of the supplies Tim used on his tag!  =D


Check it out:

 

The sailboat, water and bird stamps are by Stacy Stamps.  I used Distress Inks in Salty Ocean (of course!) and Gathered Twigs for those.  The numbers are a Tim Holtz Stamp and I brushed it with a Distress Marker in Walnut Stain.

The stencil I used is (I think) an old Doodlebug die cut sheet of paper.  And I sprayed the stencil with Dylusions Ink because I haven't purchased the awesome Tim Holtz Spritzer yet!  ;-)

I added a bit of tissue tape--so love that stuff!  A bit of distressed seam binding at the top,  a bit of distressed hemp cord attached with the Tiny Attacher, and a fun piece of Studio Calico anchor wood veneer finish off the tag.

And there ya go!  :-)

Still Here!

I've seen lots of posts around the blogosphere this month saying something along these lines:  I'm still here, I'm still alive, yeah it's long-lost me.

And, bad blogger that I am--I'm saying the same thing here!

Oops.

But the truth is pretty cool:  I've had a TON of opportunities for some great hiking.  The weather here--after the 5 inches of snow melted and the earthquake stopped shaking--has been outrageously awesome.  I mean like record-breaking high temperatures awesome!

You just can't pass up days like that!

In addition to just not being here to blog, Mr Blogger and the rest of the Internet haven't been getting along.  I really do visit, it's just that my comments fly off somewhere and never show up on your blogs!  So frustrating!

So.

Add great weather and huge frustrations and what do you get?

Yeah.  A post apologizing for my absence.  Heh.


To make up for it, I leave you with this scene, from Charles Towne Landing State Park in Charleston, SC, along the Ashley River, where it was 83 degrees.....

And yes, it was as gorgeous of a day as it looks like in the picture.

February Tag Time!

Happy February 1st!

Er.

I mean THIRD!!  ;-)

Yes, I'm a bit behind, but I was out of town and then had a day to recover from being out of town and now I have a day to....that's right....create Tim's February Tag!!!!  =D

And, as ALWAYS, I've done nothing like Sir Tim did.  Basically because I don't have the sweet warehouse o' stuff that he has!  HA!

But here's my take...

Taken in the sun and everything!!

I used a Crafter's Workshop stencil for the background, using Distress Inks in Worn Lipstick, Barn Door and Fired Brick.  I dumped clear embossing powder over that.  I may have waited just a teensy bit too long on that step--the mottled texture of the melted powder is so cool though!!  I scruffed the edges and added Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

Then I made the heart.  I used a Grunge Board heart and Ice Stickles.

For the "sentiment" part I stamped three stamps using VersaMark, then scribbled with chalk.  Love that technique!

The arrow is wood veneer covered in Brushed Pewter Distress Paint.

And the border is a Die-namics Faux Crochet Border die cut from HVAC silver tape.  Love that stuff.  ;-)

Finally I added a bit of crinkle ribbon (seam binding, Walnut Stain Distress Ink and water.)

And there ya go!  Another tag done!!

Bird Fight!

So.

I've had "blog" on my To Do List since Tuesday.  Sometimes life just gets in the way, you know?  But in a totally good way!  I've been hiking and got snowed in and went shopping at Michael's.

I've got priorities, ya know??

But here's the second Bluebird photo.  I caught these two fighting in our stream.  It's not like they're tiny birds and it's not like there's room for everyone in the stream.

Crazy birds.  ;-)

 

Sorry about the weirdly shaded page.  Apparently the photographer was asleep at the lens when she took this shot.

Ahem.

Anyway.  I've thrown in some Chic Tags, a bit of Studio Calico and some snippets here and there.  I used the Doodlebug Designs letters again.  At first I wasn't too sure about the font, but when you take it off the sticker sheet and put it on a scrap page, it's like magic.  Love those i's!

Bluebirds of Happiness

So after the hawk eating his...um...salad I posted the other day, I thought I should show you some happier photos!  We usually have a pair or two of resident Eastern Bluebirds during the winter.  They love to get a drink from our man-made stream.

I used a bit of leftover paper and a piece of BasicGrey's Carte Postale paper which I cut apart to make little stamp-looking snippets.  The letter stickers are by Doodlebug Designs, Loopy Love.  So love that font!!  I added gems to dot the i's.

Hawk at Lunch--Part Deux

Here's another shot of the hawk eating his...er...salad in a tree in my backyard.  They visit quite often because we have a bunch of bird feeders and the area has become somewhat of an all-you-can-eat buffet.

For the hawks, I mean.

And the owls.

And the occasional Bald Eagle.

I digress...

I used a LOT of snippets on this one.  Some from Little Yellow Bicycle, some from BasicGrey and one from KaiserCraft.  I pulled a page from a German language book.  Then I added tons of enamel dots.  (I may or may not have an infatuation with them.)  The brownish half-circles above and below are actually one large chipboard sticker.  It's a record--you know, the kind you play on a record player.  That's from BasicGrey too.

The title comes from a famous sandwich here in the Southeastern US--pulled pork. It's shredded smoked pork on a bun.  This Red-shouldered Hawk shredded his lunch...thus the title..."pulled porkbird."

I found it immensely funny at the time.

No, really I did.

Hawk at Lunch

I've got a few pages of pictures I took of a Red-shouldered Hawk eating lunch in a tree.

Let's just pretend he's a vegetarian eating a salad, shall we?

 

I did have lots of inky fun making the page...as you can see!  ;-)

I splattered ink and dragged (or is it drug?) Distress Paint across the page.  Then I used up scraps of paper and a bunch of enamel dots.

One

Here's the companion page to the one I posted previously.  I continued to shoot early morning dew in black and white.

I love this photo because it's so still and calm.  The droplet hung on to the leaf as I continued to shoot.

This was one photo, one droplet, one serene moment in time, one memory captured.

I used a stencil for the script background, spraying it like crazy with Dylusions spray ink in black.  (I totally love the overspray and the smears--so cool!!)  I added a hacked up piece of black cardstock and a smaller piece of velum under the photo.  Then I stuck Tim Holtz's tissue tape all over.  I finished with some of Amy Tan's sticker letters in a dark gray.

Super simple page.  So much fun to do.  Love the way it came out!

Ephemeral

Here's a second photo of my adventures in dew on spider webs.  I shot it in black and white and decided to keep the page black and white too.

I used two pieces of white cardstock, one cut smaller than the other.  I sprayed the small one with Mr Huey's Warm Calico.  It's kind of a super dark gray--like dark gray flannel.  I also did some drippage too.  I cut a gray piece of cardstock for behind the photo. I also added a few pieces of Tim Holtz's tissue tape on the larger piece of cardstock.  The limited journaling is at the bottom.  Some fun rubbery gray letters by Amy Tangerine finished the page.

A series of dew

Here's hoping that Flickr and Blogger play nice today!

Way back in December we had a lovely warm night, followed by a lovely warm morning, complete with dense lovely fog.

Naturally, I took pictures.

We have one small blueberry bush hutch and the spiders love to make their webs all over it.  I didn't know this until the fog settled on the webs and made them sparkle like diamonds!

I've got sewing and washi and bits of leftover Hambly screen prints and washi feathers and and wood veneer and a frame and a brad and all sorts of other little bits and  pieces.  FUN is what I call it!!  =D

Reflections

Today's page is from my local hiking spot.  I love the reflections in the water.  Here's a cool one where the reflection joins the actual object, making it hard to see which way's up!  These are cattails and a duck box...and the beautiful blue sky.

I used kraft paper and some fun green embellishments.

Once again I'm having problems blogging.  Flickr isn't playing nice and Blogger isn't either.  I get error messages all over the place.  Anyone else having problems like that??

Collection

Since I'm having huge amounts of problems blogging, this is gonna be quick.  Here's a black and white photo I took at my friend's koi pond.  The bits and pieces were just laying there, begging to be photographed.  I made a few washi tape feathers and used leftovers from We R Memory Keeper's autumn collection.  A few splats of ink and some enamel dots and I was done.  I'm now crossing my fingers that this even posts.

First Post of the Year!

It's January first and you know what that means, right??

Oh sure, Bowl Games.  (Yes, my alma mater is down by one at the half.  AHHHHH!!!)

And taking down the Christmas decorations.  (I seem to have forgotten some roping and one Santa.  Oops.)

But no.  I'm talking about Tim's Tag Time!  Yes, our Fearless Tag Leader is continuing his monthly tag series!!!  Check out his tag here.  Because seriously, my tag looks nothing like it.

 

So to start...sorry for the awful photo.  That journal tag isn't really that pink.  It's been cloudy here for like 523 days in a row, so it's hard to get photos that are true-to-life.  :-P

Anyway.  I followed Tim's Tag recipe.

Kind of.

The background is super cool.  I used Pumice Stone Distress Stain and flicked water on it and stenciled a Julie Fei-Fen Balzer feather over that using Pumice Stone Distress Ink.

The jar (of hopes for the future--get it?) is die cut grunge paper covered in silver tape used in HVAC work.  I embossed that with swirls then die cut another jar using some etched plastic I found laying around.  I painted the swirly embossed image with Black Soot Distress Paint then stuck some Chit-Chat stickers on top, and stapled the plastic die cut piece on top of that!

Whew.

I used some of Tim's glorious Remnant Rubs for the words on the bottom of the tag and added a journal tag with an old old old compass stamp.

I made the fun charm just like Tim did.

OK.  Not really.

I punched a 3/4 inch circle from cardstock, applied a Remnant Rub phrase on it then cut the circle down to 1/2 inch so it would fit in one of Tim's brads.  It's really cool in real life!  ;-)

I added a bit of seam binding/crinkle ribbon and called it DONE.
