This is a boring page, I know, but I wanted to document how I started each new day within the album.

I used these fun 'day' cards and recorded bits of the weather. I do this in my daily journal too. (I can't remember where I got the cards--they were a free download. As soon as I find them again I'll add that information. Sorry.)

I have a card on the right (that's from Creativity Prompt, another free download) to record my excitement about Tim Holtz's new Distress Inks. Woot! ;-)

And then I added a note about what I did that day. I printed out photos from the previous days and fixed up this album! ;-)

All the pages/papers are from 7Gypsies. The album is a Cover-all from Zutter and I bound it using the Cinch.

WITL--Tuesday

On to Tuesday's spread for Ali Edwards' Week in the Life project.

Tuesday was my last day in Charleston, so I headed to Folly Beach. Totally one of my most favorite places ever! =D (Also the best surfing on the East Coast!!!)

I used funky stickers for the title and added photos of: the Folly Beach sign, a Black Vulture who was hanging out on a power pole, and the information sign about the lighthouse (Morris Island Lighthouse) at Folly Beach.

The rest of the pages for Tuesday are photos of birds, ocean, waves, sand and the lighthouse! ;-)

As with the entire WITL album, all pages are from several 7Gypsies paper pads. LOVE their paper!

WITL--Monday

Here's Monday's section of Ali Edwards' Week in the Life project.

I decided to print all my cell phone photos out on regular paper (like printer paper, I mean) instead of photo paper. Because there were so many, I decided to go the cheaper route! ;-)

So this section of Monday was about visiting the South Carolina Aquarium. If you're ever in Charleston, this is one of those "must see" things. The pictures are from the Salt Water Exhibit. You can get very very close to the birds, turtles and stingrays. I mean VERY close. Very cool.

The photos are of a Great Blue Heron, a pair of Diamondback Terrapins (turtles) and a pair of White Ibises.

A little bit of journaling, some washi tape, all served on 7Gypsies paper! Heh.




On the right hand side are photos of the cool metal frog outside on a bench and one of the huge carrier ships that dock in Charleston Harbor.

WITL--Sunday

Once again, I'm playing catch up! I'm documenting along with Ali Edwards using her seriously cool project--Week in the Life.

I was out of town...in Charleston, SC...for the first part of the week. It makes for more exciting "stuff" in the Week in the Life album! ;-)

Here's part of Sunday's spread. Love my Aquafina water bottles! I also love (as you can see!) my brand new washi tape!

I stole a coupon from the hotel lobby for a boat ride in Charleston Harbor. I love boats and the harbor, so in went the coupon. Even though I never got on the boat, I did see it later and I've got a few photos of it too in the album.

The journaling is about dinner--the server, Josh, was better than the food! ;-) {The free journaling cards can be found here: Creativity Prompt.} And I added a bit on a piece of cardstock about touring the downtown area of Charleston.

That huge "document" ticket at the bottom is from 7Gypsies, as is all the paper I used for pages in the album.

Week In the Life

Anyone taking part in Ali Edwards' Week in the Life?  It starts on Monday.  I am, but I'll be starting on Sunday.

I made a lovely new journal for it.  On the left is the actual cover.  It's an 8x8 Zutter Cover-All.

Shhh...don't tell anyone.  I have a Cinch!  ;-)  But the Cover-All works perfectly with the Cinch.

I used a bunch of paper from three different 7Gypsies 8x8 blocks for my pages.  (That's the paper on the right.)  And I ripped up an old South Carolina map and sort of collaged the pieces on the outside of the cover.  I used Gathered Twigs Distress Ink on the cover and the map.  I also used Claudine Hellmuth's Matte Medium to adhere the maps and seal the whole thing.

I made pockets on the inside covers with a piece of Graphic 45 kraft paper.  You can see the black letter stickers sticking up out of the pocket on the left.  I also have a bunch of pre-made tags in the back pocket for journaling on the boldly patterned 7Gypsie paper.

Mostly I'll print my cell phone pictures for this and add whatever ephemera I collect.  I'm keeping it simple--more of a highlight reel-of-the-day and not an hour-by-hour thing.

I enjoyed playing along with Ali on the Day in the Life project so I think the week will be fun too!

Pink and Black

Wow.  It's been weird here not having any challenges to take part in--but I've been busy visiting all the amazing creations on Shimelle's blog.  It's not too late to take part in the festivites!  =D

Here's a card I made while goofing off before the scrapbooking party started.

A Die Cuts With a View card blank, two stamps and one ink.  Super simple.

I got the idea from Simply Stamped (Maile Belles's blog) and a Melissa Bickford card.

Challenge #16 (sob!)

Shimelle wanted us to use up the scrap pieces of cardstock and pretty paper we accumulated this weekend.

And so I did.

Photo was taken at Freedom Weekend Aloft in Greenville, SC, way the heck back in 1988.

I can't believe I've finally finished.  Guess I'd better get to that housework I've put off all weekend.  ;-)

Challenge #15

WOW.  The shells on this page look like 3D!  How did THAT happen???  Cool.  :-)

Anywho, this is for Shimelle's Challenge #15.  {One more to go....}

The challenge was to choose a "rubbish" photo and scrapbook it like it was a perfect photo.  When I read that, I knew EXACTLY which photo to grab.  This lighthouse pic has been sitting, lonely, in a photo album with other "rubbish" photos.  Waiting.

The reason I think it's rubbish is that cheeky little woman standing at the top of lighthouse.

I was busy taking pictures of the lighthouse when she walked into my view.

And stood there.

Aaaand stood there.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand stood there.

And copped a cheeky pose that said to me, "You will never get a shot of this lighthouse without me standing here.  I will remain here until I die."

SO I SHOWED HER.

I TOOK THE PHOTO.

And then promptly relegated it to the Lonely Rubbish Photos Album.

Until today.

Today I embrace the rubbish!

Challenge #13

This page is for Shimelle's challenge--Print It Out.  She gave us cute downloads to scrap with.

For the record...I don't do pink.  Or glitter.  And yet you will find both on this page.  Hee Hee.

I found some pink and blue papers that matched close enough, then distressed the heck out of everything.  Yay for Tim Holtz and his magic Distress Inks.  =D

Also for the record...this photo was taken in Charleston, SC, at the Tall Ships Festival.  The ship is the Cisne Branco from Brazil.  The name means white swan.

Challenge #12

ETA:  SO sorry, guys!  I was soooo tired last night I didn't tell you about the photo!  Sharon pointed out that there's no journaling!  There is, it's just that the photo of the page was taken inside, in bad lighting and you can't see it.  :-(   I've got notes on the place, the date and who John C. Calhoun was.  Here's what I wrote:  (On the right side...)  Charleston, SC.  June 20, 2002.  (On the left side...)  US House of Representatives.  US Senate.  Vice President.  (Then at the bottom...)  Secretary of State and Secretary of War.  Monument erected on June 27, 1896.  Marion Square.  {Sorry!!}

Challenge #14

I skipped ahead to Shimelle's Challenge #14.  (Is that cheating??)

At first I was clueless on how to approach this challenge.  Quads??  I have a hard enough time using a 12x12 square!  But after I hauled out my beloved Graphic 45 papers, I was good as gold!

I purposely left all the squares the size they arrived in--I love the funkiness of the different sizes.  :-)

The journaling talks about the rain storm I found myself in and the shelter I took.  I stood in one spot for 15 minutes, listening to the rain fall and the flag snap in the wind.


OK, maybe I'll get in a few more challenges tonight.  I probably should start mainlining caffeine shortly......

Challenge #11

Gosh, y'all, I hope this works!  I switched from Aviary to iPiccy to get this posted.  Cross your fingers!

Here's Challenge #11 from Shimelle.  (I know my "thirds" look crooked, but in real life they aren't.)

All the papers are from the Chap line from American Crafts.  I never would have thought to mix patterns like this, but it turned out kind of cool.  I loved the colors--they are also in the photo.

That ship would be the Pagoria, a three-masted barque from Poland.


Not too sure I will complete all the challenges today...I mean tonight.  But maybe I'll go crazy and scrap until 1 AM.  WHO'S WITH ME???  LOL!!!

Challenge #10

OK. SO.

Shimelle's Challenge #10 is to pick some BOLD paper for the layout. I hope this paper qualifies because I think I should have used some sort of eye protection while working with it.

This paper is GREEN. I mean g-r-double e-n kind a GREEN.

But as I continued to work with it, you know what? It kind of grew on me. I would rather be scrapping on black or kraft though. But that's why it's a challenge, no? ;-)

These are two photos of my dad's hometown, where we have our family reunions.

Challenge #9

Wow. Challenge #9. I can't believe it!!

Shimelle challenged us to "Take Your Pick" this time. We had to look for a challenge that had already closed and open it up--just for us! (How cute!!)

So I went over to UKScrappers and found a layout challenge Shimelle had done over there back in January. I really liked the layout, so here's my take on it!

The journaling talks about the Who (my mom and I); What (tall ships); Where (Charleston, SC); and When (June 2009).

Sorry about the random grass shadows. I've taken to throwing the page down on the lawn to get a good photo! Which I'm sure my neighbors appreciate!! ;-)

Challenge #8

Alrighty then! Here's the next challenge! I'm moving right along...

Next up from Shimelle is a challenge all about using a stamp prominently in your layout. I actually used two--but they're from the same set. Hope that's not cheating. ;-)

I stamped the map on the bottom left. Then I stamped the compass on the top right. Then I stamped it again on bit of scrap paper, cut it out and adhered it right over the stamped image.

This page makes me happy. It's very VERY clean and simple! I like that the photo *is* the story.

Yes, yes I do.

Challenge #7

WOW. When I got up this morning, I KNEW I was behind in Shimelle's challenges. To my horror, I discovered I was TWO challenges and several discussions behind!! AAARRGHHHH!!

So I went all clean and simple on this design. I had the layout ready, ran off to church, ran back and adhered it all down.

BOOYAH.

Shimelle's challenge was to use a pocket or an envelope to hold something or hide something.

I chose to make my pocket part of the layout papers. I tucked little tags behind that long strip of blue paper, after journaling about the photo on the tags. I glued down the blue strip, leaving pockets of unglued areas to hold the tags.

I made the tag from a large shipping tag, colored using Tim Holtz's No Wrinkle Distress Technique. Then I punched out mini tags and used the leftover end as an embellishment. (That's the bit sticking out on the left side of the blue strip.)

OK. Gotta get back to creating! Thanks for stopping in!

Challenge #6

This challenge was to choose another scrapper's page and scraplift it while changing one major component of the layout. Shimelle had a few links to pages she had bookmarked and when I saw this by Lynn Ghahary, my search was over! Love love LOVE her page!!

I followed her layout, with different colors, but I changed the middle section completely. Mine is all handwritten details of the place (Fort Moultrie, South Carolina), not a printed saying (also very cool) like Lynn did.

I love the layout and I will definitely use it again. You could change the colors and the sizes of all the pieces and come up with something drastically different each time.



And thanks again for stopping in to take a look. I have SO enjoyed dropping by to see your creations. VERY inspiring!! =D

Challenge #5

Chuggin' right along here with Shimelle and her super awesome challenges!! I'm having so much fun!! =D

This challenge was to take inspiration from a scrapbook page created by Wilna Furstenberg. She has an amazing style!

I decided to use a panoramic photo like Wilna did. This one is from Hunting Island State Park in South Carolina.

I used LOTS of white space. I broke out my new washi tapes from Walmart. (Note to self: 99 cent washi tapes are really TAPE and they STICK PERMANENTLY. Oops.)

I kept everything kind of monochromatic. I even found some Thickers that matched! (Better in real life than in the photo, I promise!!)

I added a few of the butterflies and embellishment groupings, like Wilna did. I pretty much scraplifted her page, with less stuff. =D


OK, enough talk. I see Shimelle has Challenge #6 up already!!!! ;-) Thank you SO MUCH for stopping in!

Anywho...on to the challenge. This time Shimelle requested that we use yellow, gray, and one other color. My color being blue!

I think this page will be one of those that gets put into the album, but will forever remain Not Quite Finished.

It needs something. I don't know what, but I have no time to think about it. Challenge #5 has been posted already!! =D

Challenge #3

I'm still keeping up with Shimelle and her challenge weekend. This time we were challenged to mix our personal style with a look we've never tried before.

And thus I present....the Julie Fei-Fan Balzer Scrapbook Page.

When I first read the challenge, I thought, "Whose scrapping style scares me?" Why, Julie's of course! ;-)

I really, REALLY love what she does. But I thought I could never achieve her look on a page.

Except for my HORRIBLE handwriting with a paint brush, I think this page is pretty darn cool.

I finger-painted the tags with acrylic paint diluted with water.

OK, that was fun. ;-)

Then I typed the city name and the date. I added a bit of journaling on the side there.

Messy, painty, inky.

Seriously fun!!


Oh and PS: Sorry about the photo. The sun has gone down, so I used a lamp...and this is what happens when you do that. ;-)

Challenge #2

This challenge from Shimelle involves using three different paper collections on one page.

I used Sassafras Lass (Count Me In: Multiply) for the main page and striped border. I used American Craft (Chap: Dave) for the polka-dotted large piece. And Three Bugs in a Rug (Spread Your Wings: Little Red) for the smaller rectangle piece.

I also threw in a bit of K&Co by using the ruler and sunflower borders.

Shimelle used a cute Poloroid kind of photo. I just made one up with cardstock and a seahorse stamp.

And if you're wondering what that black thing hanging in the middle of the air is....that would be Sullivan's Island Lighthouse. The bottom half of the lighthouse is white, which in real life you can see in the photo. :-)

I'm off to see what else Shimelle has cooked up for us. Craft on!! And thanks so much for having a look!

And here we go with Shimelle's first challenge!!! =D

Shimelle posted a beautiful page by Jaime Warren for inspiration. I used the general outline/layout of Jaime's page, but changed all the colors. ;-)

The photo was taken several years ago in Chillicothe, Ohio, of Adena--the home of Ohio's sixth governor, Thomas Worthington.

The story goes....one morning Thomas and several of his guests arose early for the sunrise over the Scioto River and Mount Logan (which are located to the left of this photo.) The vista inspired the Great Seal of the State of Ohio.


Supplies include: Papers from Cosmo Cricket, My Mind's Eye; Stuff from Colorbok, Studio 112; Inks from Tim Holtz

CASE'D B-day

Yep, totally CASE'D this one from Lynn's Loft. Well, not totally. Kinda. ;-)

I used a black A-7 sized card blank. Then I cut a piece of that lovely peach and green flowered paper for a panel. I rounded the corners like Lynn did.

I stamped the sentiment on the backside of that lovely peach and green and flowered paper and punched it out with a label punch.

I added the bling cuz it seemed like it needed a little bling.

Not too sure about this one. It reminds me of the TV we had when I was 3. You know, when you actually had to GET UP and walk over to the TV to change channels?? Yeah, THAT one.

Dandelion Birthday

OK, as always, sorry for the wonky photo. I took the pic in broad daylight, not knowing that there were shadows laying across my card. It's really not gradiated at all. I tried to fix it, but this is the best I could do. *sigh* It's really quite cute IN REAL LIFE.

I totally stole the idea off of Susan Raihala's blog, Simplicity. I just changed up the colors, the stamp and the sentiment. ;-)

I stamped the flower--does it look like a dandelion to you? Yeah, me too. :-) Then stamped the sentiment after I made a mat for the flower panel.

Super easy. I think the layout works best with long, tall stamps--like Susan used.

Easter Bunny

Since it's Easter Monday, I thought I would slip in the last of my Easter makes.

This one is so ridiculously cute, I just can't stand it. Heh heh. ;-)

And simple too. Stamp the Easter bunny, punch the butterfly!

Take Care

This was a hard card to make. It's for a man...and how do you say 'get well soon' without butterflies?? Every "go-to" image I have for recovery/healing/get well is all girly.

So I thought of trees. For me, trees evoke peaceful, almost eternal, steadfast kinds of feelings.

And I think that's so important when you're sick or recovering.

I hope the recipient feels the same way about this card.

Tim's Tag--April

If you haven't yet had a look-see, check out Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2012! This is my take on April's make.

I had so much fun making this one. Wait...I said that for the first two, didn't I?  Heh heh.

I used a bunch of supplies, but my favorite part is the branch with the dragonfly. I cut up some Grungepaper to look like a branch and inked it up, then pressed it into a VersaMark pad, then used Distress Embossing Powders on it. Very cool technique.

For the dragonfly, I stamped the image on Grungepaper, then colored it carefully with Distress Inks, then covered it with Glossy Accents. Also very cool.

I had to search for a cool sentiment and when I found this one...it just fit! I typed it up on cardstock using a typewriter. It says...My soul is in the sky. A line taken from Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Which I also thought was pretty perfect! ;-)

Spring Card

I thought I had done a pretty good job of taking pictures of my Easter cards.

Until I pulled this photo up to blog it.

See that little splotch under the 'p' in Spring?? Yes, that's a bug. I took the photos outside and never noticed this little visitor until just now.

I left him on there--not editing him out--just cuz I thought the whole thing was too funny.

Spring. Sunshine. BUGS. LOL!!

So I took the idea of this card from the One Layer Wednesday challenge--courtesy of Arydth on the MASKerade blog. I just changed the colors. :-)

I stamped the spring sentiment first, then added the leaves around the edge. To get the leaves in a nice even circle, I did what Arydth did--I punched a circle of scrap paper then placed it over the 's' and stamped around the circle's edge.

For a final touch (other than the bug) I used a glitter pen on the butterfly.

Happy Easter

Happy Monday! Here's another Easter card for your viewing pleasure! ;-)

Super clean-and-simple. I stamped the egg in Worn Lipstick Distress Ink, the sentiment in Pumice Stone Distress Ink.

Then I used chalks and a small paintbrush to color the egg.

That's all there is to it!! =D
