Hurrah for Flickr behaving today!! ;-)

I saw this card over on Jen Nelson's blog The Tiny Blue Butterfly. She went the manly route, I went the girly route.

Super easy. (Do I say that a lot or what???!!)

Stamp the flower on patterned paper, then stamp again on a card blank. Fussy cut the patterned one and use Pop Dots to adhere.

Cut a banner shape, stamp the sentiment, then use more Pop Dots.

Done.

I purposefully adhered the banner off-center. Tell me what you think. Does it look edgy or weird? I can't decide, but I'm putting it in the mail anyway. ;-)

Over the Fence

So Day Two of Flickr being bad.  NOW I can't even blog my photos!!  You should read....OK, you should NOT read the comments Flickr users are posting on the Flickr blog.  None of it good.  So this time Flickr has not only prevented me from connecting to Blogger, they have once again hidden Aviary--that's the photo editing tool.

Well, I hope they wake up and smell the coffee, is all I can say.  :-p


Let's try a card, shall we??

 

Wow.  That only took like 10 minutes to upload!

Oh, Flickr, Flickr, Flickr.

You makin' me mad, mon!

Anywho.

I got the idea for this card from Crafting in the Country--check out Jenny's card here.

I changed it up a bit and used a smaller die cut.  But I love the idea of flowers over and through a garden fence, don't you?  So sweet!  =D

Super easy.  Die cut the fence, punch the flowers, cut some stems and leaves, cut some border paper, punch more border paper, and stamp a sentiment.

Easy!  ;-)

Butterfly: Invasion or Obsession?

I thought today was going to be better than Monday...and then I clicked on Flickr. If you use Flickr, you are in for one rude surprise :-(

They updated it and then hid everything.

But the sun is shining and here's a cool card and I promise to stop whining.

I got the idea from this card over on Catered Crop's Pinterest page. The crafter used FABRIC to make one seriously cool apple!

I used a snippet of lovely paper instead.

And no sewing.

Heh.

Pretty simple (if you don't sew and don't use fabric!) I just die cut the butterfly, corrugated a piece of kraft paper and then layered everything.

I used a Picket Fence Distress Marker to make the faux stitches around the butterfly.

Butterflies and CASEing

So today has not been a good day.

Cuz like it's all Monday and everything.

And to top it off, I can NOT find the blog for the card I CASEd. I've looked everywhere! I'm pretty sure it's a DT member's blog....but which one I have no idea.

Seriously. Why can't Mondays play nice?? :P

Anyway. This unknown crafter used black, white and a gorgeous pale green on her card.

I wanted my card a bit more manly...so I used a dark, polka-dotted green.

Love the thin washi tape behind the butterfly too. I had a wider tape, then realized it overwhelmed the butterfly. I think the black and white tape works much better.

Thinking of You

I saw this card by Michelle over on The Card Grotto blog and knew I had to CASE it! Love her balloon!!

**(Note to self: BUY A BALLOON DIE CUT OR PUNCH!!!)**

I die cut the rectangle and adhered the patterned paper behind it. Then I punched the butterfly out of some paper I had practiced spraying Heidi Swapp's Color Shine on--such a gorgeous teal color!

I drew the butterfly trail by hand. And dang it, I'm OK with it. ;-)

I stamped the sentiment, then cut the banner shape out of white cardstock--the same CS I used for the large panel.

The banner is popped up a bit using Pop Dots.

Super fast to make. Now the ideas are forming! I noticed a kite die cut in my LSS that I might have to snag!

Kayak Part Deux

Back during National Scrapbooking Week, I made a page with some photos of an unknown guy kayaking. There were actually two guys running the "rapids" that day and these photos are of the first guy.

One of new products over at Studio Calico is cork stickers with images stamped on them.

So...I can make that.

And I did!

I had purchased a sheet of sticky-backed cork and shoved it on a shelf. Sadly, there it sat.

Until I saw the cork stickers and fell in love!

I used Tim Holtz's Distress Paint to stamp the letters and small shapes.

Seriously. FUN.

A few words of advice though...solid images work better than intricate or thin-lined images.

And the Distress Paints work really, really well. Better than Distress Ink or Distress Pens...which, um....never dry on cork. :-0 The Paint dries quickly, especially with a heat gun.

And darker colors of Distress Paint work better than lighter ones. Fired Brick and Black Soot rock. The blues are awesome. Mustard Stain and Rusty Hinge...not so much.

I punched all these shapes with Marvy-Uchida punches. Punch like buttah.

This final challenge over on Shimelle's blog is to "scrap a milestone!"

I guess I had better explain why there's a photo of a river on this page, eh?

April began my sixth year here in my current city in South Carolina. I've only lived longer in one other place.

Milestone.

I celebrated an important birthday here.

Milestone.

I went back to college for a second degree.

Milestone.

My oldest niece started college.

Milestone.

It's been 30 years since I became a believer in Jesus Christ.

Milestone.

In each of the places I've lived, there has always been water nearby...an ocean, a lake, a pond, a stream. And that's true of this city as well.

It's been the one constant.

In an odd way, the lakes and rivers have become measuring devices. Symbols of moving forward, of moving on in my life, of life moving on, of life moving forward.

This river *is* my milestone.

NSD Challenge #17

And then there were two.

Two challenges left, that is.

I'm still scrappin' the challenges over at Shimelle's place. Here's #17--"scrapbook with fabric!"

So I hope this isn't a cop-out, but I used felt.

Felt's a fabric, right?

I used a die cut and a Cuttlebug to make those super cool leaves on the left side. By the way, the Cuttlebug cuts felt like BUTTAH.

I've got some other cop-out fabric-y things going on too. The paper has a lot of faux stitching on it, and the trees, which I cut out of another piece of paper from the same line, look quilted.

This was a super difficult challenge for me. (That's the point, right?) I don't use fabric when I scrap and the fabric I *do* have matches nothing.

So I had to think a lot. And surf Pinterest a lot. And watch YouTube videos a lot. And in the end, I went my own way. ;-)

As my friend Tammy over on Life Interrupted, Then Scrapped said...most of my pages are scraplifted from OTHER PEOPLE anyway!

I'm fairly certain the page I scraplifted from was done for NSD this past year. So that means I scraplifted it from Shimelle.

I totally hope this page still counts for this challenge!! ;-)

Oh, PS:  I love Thickers, but just a little heads up on the Prairie letter stickers....as you can see from my page, the tiles are not all the same size!  I didn't realize this until most of my letters were down on the page.  Not a problem if you're sticking them on all wonky-like, but if you are making a straight line of title words like I did...meh.  Not so good.

NSD Challenge #23

Wow. I'm coming to the end of Shimelle's National Scrapbooking Day challenges! I only have three more to go--the last one and two that I skipped earlier.

This is probably one of my favorite pages I've made for this year's challenges. The photos are of a guy I don't even know kayaking down a nearby river which is running at flood stage due to heavy rains this past weekend.

My mom and I headed out there this afternoon so I could get a few pictures of all the water running over the dam and my mom noticed these guys getting ready to drop their kayak in the river.

Perfect timing, no? =D

I hope we didn't embarrass them acting like the paparazzi!! =D

NSD Challenge #22

Shimelle's challenge this time was to "scrap with squares"!

I hope ONE square counts!! ;-)

I love using black cardstock for pages and so far I don't think I've used that color yet. The shadows beside my (white white super winter white) feet allowed me to grab the black cardstock.

I cut a few scraps of paper up and sprayed a bit of Mr Huey's Shine.

Done.

Sorry if my white white super winter white feet blinded you.

If I promise not to do that again, will you come back and visit me?

Welcome to Day 4 of National Scrapbooking Day! I'm still knocking out pages along with Shimelle Laine and hundreds of other scrappers!

Soooo, I had a bit of a challenge with Challenge #21--"divide your page."

I don't have any divided pages.

At all.

So I had to improvise. In a creative way.

I used the ever-popular Project Life as an inspiration and divided my page into sections.

I'm not sure I'm OK with this page. I just know I'm done with this page. ;-)

NSD Challenge #19

Challenge #19 is to "paint it up"!!

I had fun with this one. Not exactly what I had planned on doing, but I'm kinda digging the outcome!

I used Tim Holtz's Distress Paint in Picket Fence. I just slammed the bottle down on the paper to make polka dots.

Then I pounced the Paint on the wood veneer shapes.

And for a moment of extreme anxiety, I painted the title.....

...because if I didn't spell Rhododendron correctly, I was done for: No more cardstock this color!

(Note to self: Stock up on raspberry cardstock!!!)

NSD Challenge #16

So Challenge #16 is to "record hope or gratitude."

So now you may be thinking...there's a frog on this page.

You are right.

I was taking pictures of some lovely pink rhododendron flowers and almost jumped when I saw this little guy. He's a beautiful Gray Tree Frog, very common here in South Carolina.

And that got me thinking.

I live in a rural area where lots of wildlife comes and goes...and stays too! Just this morning I saw a Red Fox gallivanting through the yard!

So that coincided beautifully with Shimelle's challenge on gratitude. And I realized (again!) just how much I have to be grateful for.

Thus, the frog on the page.

NSD Challenge #15

Then why do I have a FLY ON MY PAGE???

SO disrespectful!!

Ah, the hazards of outdoor photography!

No, despite what my unwanted and undetected little visitor would like you to think, the REAL challenge is to "line it up."

I decided to take that very literally and lined up my circles, blingy gems and washi tape. I also lined up my title letters. I wonder if that counts too. ;-)

In case you can't quite see the photo--it's so much better in real life, I promise--it's an American Crow in a birdbath three sizes too small for the Crow. He really needs a tub! =D

NSD Challenge #14

For Challenge #14--"try a double page"--I joined this one with the page I did for Challenge #12--"write a letter".

I used the same layout, color scheme, photo location, and letter writing technique. And I once again channeled my inner Julie Fei-fen Balzer.

I love the super-clean, slightly wonky look of these two pages.

And speaking of wonky...I ran out of the letter "o" and needed two, so I cut up a lower case letter "g" for each of the missing letters. Cool, eh? ;-)

NSD Challenge #12

All righty! We're up to Challenge #12, playing along with Shimelle Laine's National Scrapbooking Day...Day 3 for me! ;-)

Number 12 is to "write a letter" to a person or place.

So I wrote my letter to my favorite hiking trail--Cottonwood. So named for the Cottonwood trees that are numerous along the banks of the river.

So I told Cottonwood how much I loved him.

While channeling my inner Julie Fei-fan Balzer.


And that's that.

Oh and PS: Sorry about the thumb shot. The sun has finally reappeared and now I have to contend with the shadows from all the trees. I thought about standing in the middle of the road, but my neighbors already think I'm crazy for dropping stuff on the grass then leaning over it and pointing my phone at it. Heh.

And my final challenge for today is #10--"use a mood board," says Shimelle!

I shopped around Pinterest a little bit and found a cute mood board full of hearts and primary colors. It also had seed packets, which I thought would be really cool, but the ones I had were pastel colors.

I just went with the hearts and primary colors.

Then I took the mood board thing to the literal extreme and actually used cork board paper.

Get it? My mood board page IS a mood board!!

OK, look. It's late. The later it gets, the goofier I get. ;-)

Anywho. This picture is a shot of our resident Eastern Bluebird Big Daddy. He's currently feeding Big Momma and the Little Kids while waiting for them to literally leave the nest.

NSD Challenge #9

Challenge #9 on Shimelle's blog is to "do some fancy cutting"!

I did the fanciness two ways. The first was die cutting the words "Hello, Friend".

I used a Cuttlebug die cut. And...I just realized I forgot to add the bling over the letter "i" on each Friend. Ha ha ha!! Better do that before I forget, eh? =D

The second way was to hand cut the feathers. I sprayed both with Mr Huey's Shine, but the camera made the bottom one look blue. Definitely black. :-)

And that's it for me for the moment--I seem to have missed dinner in here somewhere!!

NSD Challenge #8

First off...the photo apology. It's been raining cats and dogs here, so the light has been non-existent, but now the sun is setting so the photos are just getting worse. SO SORRY!! :-(

But now back to the fun part! For this challenge, Shimelle wants us to "scrap about yourself"!

Since I rarely take photos of myself, I decided to go into the Way Back File and find one of me as a child.

As you can clearly see in the photo, even as a small tot, I was always trying to escape!! My mom wrote on the back of the photo (which I added as the journaling): "Caught ya! Always talking to the neighbors over the fence!"

Even as a child...always misunderstood! =D I was really trying to find some help to get out of my crib!!

I thought the ESCAPE paper was rather perfect! ;-)


So how did you approach this challenge? Did you use a current photo or did you too delve into the Way Back File??

NSD Challenge #7

Number 7 was a fun challenge! Shimelle said to "use unexpected supplies"! I spent a little time thinking before it came to me....

Unexpectedly I used playing cards!

I had altered two playing cards for a project I never finished. I glued pages from a French textbook and distressed them with ink and Crackle paint. Then they sat in my little tray, waiting. I thought they would be perfect for this challenge!

I layered the playing cards with a bunch of fun stuff from Simple Stories. Love their products!!

The photo is the view at "knee level" on a bridge over a local creek.

NSD Challenge #4

Next up is a journaling challenge! Shimelle wants us to "write with repetition"!

I loved guest artist Lexi Bridges' scrapbook page and kinda, sorta used her idea...just on a much smaller scale.

Instead of repeating the words across the page as Lexi did, I used one word just three times in one small area.

Also, one of the things I love most about scrapbook supplies is that if you look hard enough, you can mix and match different lines and even companies together for a fun and cohesive look.

Prime example on this page: Old, OLD BoBunny paper matches on the dot with newish Authentique letters while Bazzill paper matches rather well with Adirondack spray.

All that equals....LOVE. :-)

NSD Challenge #3

I'm back for day 2 of National Scrapbooking Day challenges. Number 3 over on Shimelle's blog is to "use mist"!

You don't gotta tell ME twice!! =D

Love LOVE working with sprays and mists and all that fun stuff so much. So I totally went wild with this one!

I got the general layout idea from a page I saw over on Pinterest, but by the time I finished, it looked nothing like it!!  I started by using two different Heidi Swapp Color Shines and a stencil for the background.

The smaller circle under the photo is gray cardstock with more of the teal Color Shine. I made the the triangles and banner tails the same way--gray cardstock with Color Shine.

The letters have been doused with three different red sprays/mists. I got a wee bit carried away there and the letters started to fall apart. No matter. I just glued the layers back down. Ya can't even tell! ;-)

I didn't have any small letters in the right colors to add to the title so I just left it as one word. I journaled all the pertinent info on the bottom and called it DONE.

NSD Challenge #1

Welcome to National Scrapbooking Day! For Shimelle Laine's first Challenge we get to "scrap in pink"!

I don't have a lot of pink paper, so I had to scrounge a bit. I did find some sparkly pink letters though. Major score there! :-)

The photo is of a gorgeous white azalea in bloom...hence the title in sparkly pink letters!

I also added a bit of Mr Huey's Shine in a top-left-to-bottom-right diagonal.

NSD Challenge #2

Shimelle challenged us to "use 4x6 photos" for Challenge #2. I hope one photo counts! =)

This picture is a tag on a old power line pole where I hike a lot. I had never noticed the different tags on it until I walked over there a few weeks ago. The power lines are no longer in service. I really have no idea what Cobra is all about, but the year indicates that's when it was checked by the power company.

Anyway. I wanted to go a bit monochromatic with this page. The papers are made by Bella Blvd and are from the same Thanksgiving line. I just used the "B" sides of both!

The darker colored papers are from BoBunny.

Sorry about the crappy photo. It's been a dark, dreary, rainy day and now the sun's gone down. Ergo...bad lighting situation.

Ah well.

NDS Challenge #5

So for National Scrapbook Day Challenge #5, we are to "use brads or eyelets" as per Shimelle.

I'm gonna be a bit honest here...it's also my "I'm getting frustrated, hungry and tired now" page.

This started out with two photos, with different paper and with black washi tape. Now I'm down to one photo, a completely different group of papers and a strip of green washi tape.

I like the simplicity of the second version.

Using the eyelets was fun--and a bigger challenge than I had anticipated.

But it's finished.

Oh, if you can't read the title, it says...Posing for the Paparazzi. I mean, look at that duck, will ya?! Don't ya just want to pinch his little duck cheeks??!! =D



Snack on! Oops, I mean SCRAP on!

Number 11. This time Shimelle has challenged us to "add some sparkle to your page"!

So...I'm a Tim Holtz kinda gurrllll, right? Tim Holtz don't use no sparkle.

So this was a major challenge for me.

So I had to get my sparkle on.

I think I succeeded. Hee, hee!!

I sprayed the letters with Dylusions Bubblegum Pink then doused them with Mr Huey's Shine.

I also doused the buttons with Shine too.

Then I flicked more Shine on the paper...which I've been hording for years.

Goodbye, cool chalkboard paper!

And just to show my page who's boss...I added some diamond blingy blings.

Pink AND sparkly.

Sparkly AND pink.

Whoa. I need some Walnut Stain Distress Ink...STAT.

NSD Challenge #13

Happy National Scrapbook Day--wherever you may be! =D

This page is the first of several challenges hosted by Shimelle over on her blog Pretty Paper, True Stories.

The challenge for this one is to "highlight your favourite papers"--as Shimelle would say! ;-)

I immediately grabbed my very much beloved and oh so "favourite" paper by Graphic 45.

I wanted to use this photo of two Mallards in my front yard. Graphic 45 has some sweet papers that have gorgeous colors. I mixed and matched several lines too. Some old, some new. Seamless mixing. One of the many things I love about G45 papers.

Instead of using lots of border strips, I let the paper be the border strip! ;-) Beyond that, I simply scraplifted Shimelle's layout....kinda! ;-)

Tim's Tag for May

**Cue foreboding music**

"Ohhhhh, Tim!!" (Our crafty creator cries!)

"How could you??? HOW COULD YOU??" (Our crafty creator weeps!)

"You...you...you used...I can't say it!! I just can't say the word aloud!! (Wails our crafty creator!)

"YOU USED MY MORTAL ENEMY! THE BANE OF MY CRAFTY EXISTENCE!! HOW COULD YOU??????" (Howls our crafty creator!!!)

"You used.......(gulp, sob, gasp!)



...RUB-ONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"


(Our crafty creator has succumbed to her emotional overload and lies quietly weeping, curled up into a ball, on the floor...of her craft room....)

**Cue melancholy cello music.....**

Yes, that's right, kids! The King of Crafty Goodness, Tim Holtz himself, used rub-ons...AKA Remnant Rubs.

Now, I'm sure Tim's Remnant Rubs are amazing and all that, but...ahem. I hate rub-ons. We just don't get along.

In fact, the only rub-ons I own were purchased for a specific project and only because they were like 99 cents.

And I bought several packs because I knew I would screw them up.

And I did.

Lots.

So all I've got in the Drawer of Rub-on Crafts is some 2008 dated thingys with numbers and months.

So I used them, dang it.

On. This. Tag.

And then...insert EVIL LAUGH HERE...I tortured them. With glee.

I scratched them with a nail file, I doused them with Distress Stain, I stamped over them with PERMANENT ink, and I buffed their little heads with Distress Inks.

TAKE THAT YOU EVIL RUB-ONS!!

Ahem.

And when I got that out of my system, I made the cool charm.

Tim used an enameled tag.

I have none so I made one. I used one of Tim's acrylic tag charms and painted the back with white Distress Paint. Then I dropped Terra Cotta Alcohol Ink on the front, THEN I stamped part of a ticket stamp and parts of a compass stamp using more permanent ink on the charm. It kinda looks like amber. :-)

Finally, I colored some ribbon and attached everything. The word band on the bottom says, "Encourage your hopes, not your fears."

So true, so true.

I no longer fear you, you evil little rub-ons.
