**Cue foreboding music**
"Ohhhhh, Tim!!" (Our crafty creator cries!)
"How could you??? HOW COULD YOU??" (Our crafty creator weeps!)

"YOU USED MY MORTAL ENEMY! THE BANE OF MY CRAFTY EXISTENCE!! HOW COULD YOU??????" (Howls our crafty creator!!!)
"You used.......(gulp, sob, gasp!)
...RUB-ONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
(Our crafty creator has succumbed to her emotional overload and lies quietly weeping, curled up into a ball, on the floor...of her craft room....)
**Cue melancholy cello music.....**
Yes, that's right, kids! The King of Crafty Goodness, Tim Holtz himself, used rub-ons...AKA Remnant Rubs.
Now, I'm sure Tim's Remnant Rubs are amazing and all that, but...ahem. I hate rub-ons. We just don't get along.
In fact, the only rub-ons I own were purchased for a specific project and only because they were like 99 cents.
And I bought several packs because I knew I would screw them up.
And I did.
Lots.
So all I've got in the Drawer of Rub-on Crafts is some 2008 dated thingys with numbers and months.
So I used them, dang it.
On. This. Tag.
And then...insert EVIL LAUGH HERE...I tortured them. With glee.
I scratched them with a nail file, I doused them with Distress Stain, I stamped over them with PERMANENT ink, and I buffed their little heads with Distress Inks.
TAKE THAT YOU EVIL RUB-ONS!!
Ahem.
And when I got that out of my system, I made the cool charm.
Tim used an enameled tag.
I have none so I made one. I used one of Tim's acrylic tag charms and painted the back with white Distress Paint. Then I dropped Terra Cotta Alcohol Ink on the front, THEN I stamped part of a ticket stamp and parts of a compass stamp using more permanent ink on the charm. It kinda looks like amber. :-)
Finally, I colored some ribbon and attached everything. The word band on the bottom says, "Encourage your hopes, not your fears."
So true, so true.
I no longer fear you, you evil little rub-ons.

Hi I am with you on the dreaded Rubons IHATE them! What are you doing Tim! Love how you tortured them.
Like you, I hate rub-ons! I know I have a few lurking in the bottom of a drawer so I guess I need to do some digging and see what I can create for this months tag. All I know is it will not be as nice as yours :-)

LOL I hope the ROs will not give you sleepless nights! At least with Tim's style, it doesn't matter if the rub-ons don't always "rub on" properly, which let's face it, is a great advantage.

Oh you have made me laugh! Your tag is lovely, your words, cue accelerating violins squeals, are genius! I hate rub ons too, but have ordered Tim's to see if his genius actually mean they like, well, rub on! Crafty hugs from across the pond, barb x

Oh, Cynthia, LOL, I feel your pain for the dasterdly rubons! I don't get along with them very well either. And there are odd pieces of them still sticking where they shouldn't be. It sounds like it was very therapeutic to distress them. And another great tag that was fun to create!

Loved your post, and your tag. I love rub-ons but hoarded them so that some have worn out; my mission this year is to use up all old 'stuff'.....
This post is not only beautiful - but hilarious! I love it! I like your take on the tag with lots of rich color and your own embellishment. I've fallen out of love with the rub-on too. Thanks for torturing them!

I wrecked my paper trying Tims technique this morning... but I will persevere (as you did) and maybe some good will come from it =)

Your tag came out gorgeous! Now, what were you so worried about? Rub-ons are fun ... you've got to "embrace rub-ons". The secret to using them is to cut out the image you want to use (including the protector sheet), and rub well (the tip of a bone folder works AMAZING). Then, slowly lift one edge ... if it starts to lift on you, then just place it down and rub again. Patience is the key!
