This was such a fun card to make! I was over at my Mom's house (she has a cooler craft room!) and we decided to have a little competition. She had printed out a picture of a card she liked and wanted to make. I said we should both make a card inspired by the card she liked.

And this is my take on it!

It's got tons of layers, which I usually don't do, but I do like the way it turned out.

I shredded the twine to get a wispy effect. I think it works with the wispiness of the stamp.

I distressed the chipboard tag, but I honestly don't remember using green. It looks kind of like old, tarnished gold in real life. I'm pretty sure I only used browns.

Also, if you squint really hard, you'll notice a grasshopper on the bottom of the background paper. I didn't realize it was on there at first, but then I cut it so the grasshopper would end up there. It's kind of subliminal. ;-)

Paper: Bazzill (brown and cream cardstock); Cosmo Cricket (Fleuriste: Vineyard); The Paper Studio (kraft cardblank)
Ink: Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Walnut Stain and Antique Linen and maybe some Black Soot on the sentiment--I don't remember what I used.)
Stamp: Inkadinkado (#97205, unnamed wheat); Her Arts (Thinking of You set)
ETC: Darice (twine); K&Co (Die-Cut Chipboard Tags)


In the end, my mom and I decided that both our cards were winners and we declared a tie! It was very interesting to see the differences between our two cards. :-)

Ha ha ha!! I LOVE this card!

Sure, it's just a bunch of fish, but they're really CHEAP fish!

I like to stop in at Big Lots every once in a while because sometimes they have crazy cheap scrapbooking/card making stuff.

They did not let me down on my latest trip.

When I saw this Cuttlebug die cut, I knew I had to have it. Sadly, it didn't have a price tag on it so I wasn't sure of the cost.

When I took it up to the register, after a moment of conversation with her supervisor, the cashier rang up another item, just to have something to scan.

Turns out that 'something' was only ONE DOLLAR and also a food item, so it was TAX FREE.

THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' 'BOUT!!!

Cheap fish make me happy.

Yeah, OK. My only excuse is that this was an experimental card anyway. Therefore, I truly cannot be blamed for the crooked aspect of it....RIGHT?

I was playing around with the ScorBuddy (the ScorPal's little brother) and wanted to make a perky, flowery card.

I used an embossing folder for the flowers and highlighted them with a bit of yellow chalk in their centers.

A bit of ribbon adds pop.

In retrospect...I should have trimmed the white paper a bit to make the scene more even (left to right). I also should have lowered the ribbon, to cut across the bottom of the white paper, or cut the paper longer to hide the stems beneath the ribbon.

Yes, this is a Thinking Man's Card.

And yes, there's a story to the card. Heh.

A friend of mine got a new job working for an accountants' organization.

Get it?

New job = butterfly

Numbers = accountants

Is it a stretch??

Well, my friend liked it. She's kinda quirky so I think she got a kick out of the card. :-)

Super easy to make. One die cut butterfly sent through an embossing folder. One piece of designer paper distressed. One congrats stamp. And bunches and bunches and bunches of Distress Inks!

Well...it's different. I rather like it. The lighting kind of washed out the stamped image, but it's clearer in real life. Once again, I CASEd it from Splitcoast Stampers.

This one is like a waffle. Some days I like it. Some days I just look at it and think it needs something else. I think, in retrospect, I should have used a designer paper on the left side and not just the card blank. I also think the white Bazzill cardstock is too white--too stark. But then....I really like the flourishes and the burgundy cardstock. But then I think...the marker color I used for the flowers doesn't match.

But then...

Waffle, waffle, waffle.

This one will probably sit in the card box for a while. :-)

Here's the second card I made with Splitcoast Stamper's quilted card technique. I used October Afternoon's South Forty again. I really don't like the back of this paper, just the brown/blue flowers, but I liked the way they looked together in this design. Check out yesterday's blog for all the instructions. I changed the sentiment and used Distress Ink (Walnut Stain) on the strip, placing more Bazzill brown cardstock behind it. I like how the ink makes the little strip pop. The button is from foof-a-la.
